Hey, Everyone! Prepare yourself emotionally for a longer post from me than usual! Today I’m talking about the menstrual cup! Gentlemen, if this is too gross a subject for you, stop reading right now! Or read on, you may help a woman in your life 😉
Why the Menstrual cup?
Ladies, I don’t know about you, but being on the period is one of the most uncomfortable things a woman has to endure! I mean, if I’m not crying for no reason, I’m spending money on tampons and sanitary towels and painkillers and food loaded in iron because I have so little energy the entire time, checking for stains all the time, changing tampons all the time, all the while not showing the men – I mean world – that we are going through hell! It is a lot to deal with and we do so beautifully!
So, you can imagine my excitement when my friend Stacey told me about the menstrual cup; a cute silicone shooter glass with a little extension at the bottom. This baby is supposed to catch all your stuff and can be worn for up to 12 hours. Yes, for up to 12 hours, I don’t have to change my tampon!
Another good reason to use the menstrual cup is the cost! I’ve read up on different time spans for using the menstrual cup. Some argue that you can use one menstrual cup for 7 – 10 years! While others say it would be wiser to replace it annually. Either way, the menstrual cup is an actual saving on your toiletry budget! Sold, to the girl who likes having money in her bank!
Being on your period also means being extra vigilant in terms of hygiene. Some have said that tampons are actually very bad for our lady parts. And I’ve also always been too scared to ask, but isn’t flushing them down the toilet bad for drainage systems? You’d also be surprised how many toilets don’t actually have bins for you to discard of that kind of stuff and using sanitary towels just makes me want to shower all the time! But with the menstrual cup, I can remove it at the end of the day, rinse it out and reinsert and sterilise it in hot water at the end of my period! Easy!
The menstrual cup is also good for the environment so the world can be just a little bit cleaner!
Phew! This is a lot to process so I’m going to give you a break to chew and swallow and read up on all this. Check out this article about the 18 benefits of using the menstrual cup. I’m trying it for the first time so stay tuned for the good, the bad and the ugly over the next few days. Have a beautiful day!
