Life in the Wake of COVID-19

South Africa’s president announced a state of disaster in light of the then 61 reported cases of COVID -19. He announced the closing of schools and limiting most workplaces to working from home and limiting movements elsewhere. This past Monday he escelated it to a lockdown of the country. We cannot leave our houses unless it is an emergency. Only supermarkets are open for emergency food runs as of tomorrow. We have seen the number of cases rise to over 500 more cases since over initial announcement and life has changed drastically – in exciting ways but also in ways that are scary.

Social Distancing

Work

My particular school has remained “open” for the next 2 weeks in order to finish off the term. Dem Boys were sent home and we have been running online classes for the past week. the up side to the virus is that it has put education in a position where the use of technology in classes is now a necessity and not just another fun option. All those conferences are starting to pay off as I put what I have learned to practice all day, every day. It sounds ideal to be able to work from home, especially when that alarm goes off in the morning and the thought of navigating heavy traffic looms, but I take my hat off to those who have been living this life for a long time!

My cottage is now my home, my gym and my work space and all of a sudden, it feels tiny! I should be grateful though. Just last year, I live in a 1 bedroom that was much smaller. I would’ve gone crazy if I was still there! But now, my home is a little more spacious and I can compartmentalise my life here.

A tip? Even though you will not be leaving the house during the day, get out of bed, shower and get into your normal morning routine. Make the bed, pick an outfit and have your breakfast before your work hours start. It has helped me to get into work mode. Also, designate an area of your abode to work and play. I only run my classes in my study and leave it when my classes are done for the day.

Play

I’ve started doing home workouts instead of going to the gym and while HIIT workouts are kicking my ass, I’m still physically active without the anxiety of possibly infecting those around me or being infected myself. Again, routine is key, even though the geography has changed quite a bit.

I am a social butterfly so the lack of human interaction has been very difficult, especially because I live alone. Fortunately, I have a small village of people in other areas of the building. Tiny feet patter above me with occasional giggles or the frustrated tantrums of a toddler with cabin fever. Wifi and all kinds of social media, keeps me in contact with my loved ones which takes the edge off my own cabin fever. I attended my first online church service on Sunday which was strange, but it still amazes me that we can still keep in touch with our various communities in this manner. I am not alone because many all over the world are having to adjust their lives the same way I have to.

We have no way of knowing how much worse this situation will get, but I believe we are now responsible to each other. Our lives are in each others’ hands if we are to overcome COVID 19. So do the right thing, for yourself and for the rest of the world. There is a light at the end of the tunnel if we do. Have a good week dear ones and by all means, please stay safe😘

Fibo Fitness and Wellness Festival

I’m starting to feel more and more at home in fitness spaces and I love it!

This weekend found me at Fibo Health and Fitness, Wellness Festival. I was really there to support my friend as per the friendship aggreement but I got much more than I expected!

Endless stalls ranging from food to active wear and equipment and everything in between! I planked for vouchers, sweated out in 30-minute classes and tried out all kinds of healthy shakes and food.

So I finally tried out Piloxing, guys and it was so much more than I expected! It’s not just punching into the air. The piloxing gloves, which have a little added weight, ensure that you get more out of those punches. 2 sets, and I understood why the instructors have such lean arms! It was only a 30-minute demo class but I was sweating hard by the end!

And it doesn’t stop there. My legs were put to the test with standing leg raises that also demand a tightened core to maximise effectiveness. I would love to have this class on a regular basis at my own gym! It’s a must try for men and women!

Shout out to Tania and her team for a great demo. You’re an amazing instructor full of fun and so much energy and it’s evident that you and your team believing in what you’re doing! Thank you!

Thank you for popping erbody! It’s always a pleasure to have you hear! Have an awesome week😘

3 Positive Pants Favourites

Happy Sunday and a new month to everyone! A change of season is near and I can’t wait for the changes that come with it!

If you’re a curvy girl like me, you understand how difficult it is to find gym tights that fit. It is exhausting! They’re usually too small or they don’t sit as high up on the waist as I would like them to, which makes my gym sessions so uncomfortable! The struggle is real!

I was sceptical when Positive Pants showed up on my social media timeline. I mean, these pants are modelled by either slender or pregnant women and I fall somewhere inbetween these gorgeous people, so meh! Here are 3 things I liked about the Positive Pants:

Design

Despite my scepticism, I couldn’t help but browse through the wide selection of prints. Positive Pants offers gorgeous tights that have vibrant designs in bright colours. How does one resist all that?!

Service

In this day and age, you’d think I shop online like all forward-thinking Millennials, but I still worry about how my clothes will fit – if they arrive at all! That’s why I was so happy that I could DM them on social media for all my questions and whoever [promptly] responded to me was so helpful! Within a few minutes, I knew how to pick a pair of pants that would fit me best and another half an hour to make my payment! And the cherry on top? My pants arrived THE NEXT DAY! They were packaged with my name on them as if the person I DMed sent them herself! I couldn’t be happier if I was sent flowers, to be honest!

Perfect fit

When I took them out I was horrified. They looked tiny and I was sure that all my anxiety about the fit was coming to life! But they fit like a glove! Not like squeeze them in or jump up and down for them to fit but legit fit and high waist, just like I wanted! I didn’t want to take them off, not even to try on the other pair! Now I understand why they advertise these pants for day to day living and not just as active wear!

If you like feeling good and being comfortable in whatever you are wearing, then these pants are for you! You’ll love their bold designs too! You can find them on Facebook and Instagram!

Thank you so much for popping in, guys! Have a beautiful week 😘

Killarney Night Run

My eyes had to adjust to the light, cold air was coming from the pool on the left and it was pitch black even with the torch on my head! This was a bad idea! How could I think I could finish a 5km run – in the dark?!

There’s always an impending sense of doom a few minutes before a run even in the light of day, so I was not surprised by these thoughts going through my head just before the beginning of the Killarney Night Run on Thursday.

The Challenge

I used to think that being able to run 5 km from beginning to end was my biggest challenge. But it wasn’t the distance that worried me this time rather seeing in the dark as well as how I would fare running at the end of the day as opposed to first thing in the morning.

Incentive

At the end, we got a puzzle piece which was 1 half and you get the second half when you run the 2nd race on 15 August. I cannot have half a fridge magnet reminding me that I didn’t complete something so I am going back armed with a determination to better my time!

This was a definite must-do! Find yourself a night run and do, it’s so much fun!

Thanks for popping in everyone! I will be much more focused next week because the exams will be over! Please bear with me! Ok, bye😘

3 Gym Buddy Benefits

Happy Sunday dear reader!

When you become a regular at the gym, you soon start making friends between sets: a nod here, a smile there, and before you know it you have a gym buddy to work out with! Today, I will be sharing 3 benefits of having a workout partner:

Motivation

For me, working out can become tedious and boring especially after a long day when I’d rather go home and stare at my white walls. Having a gym buddy has motivated me to do more than I would have done on my own. A gym buddy tells you to keep going and the rest of the time, you keep going so you don’t embarrass yourself by stopping! Your partner’s zeal can be contagious pushing you to challenge yourself more than you would have on your own.

Variety

Putting together a routine for the day can sometimes feel like a chore. Sometimes doing something for yourself is not as rewarding as the motivational memes say. A gym partner can actually suggest workouts you wouldn’t have thought of before. My new gym buddy had me running 5 km! During the week! I ran the 5 km twice this week, guys and just missed my personal best by 21 seconds! I also got to share my own workouts which she loved! we both got some variety out of our session! While I didn’t really do anything brand new with my gym partner, having someone else to workout with added a new spin to the work I was are putting in, with much less rest time!

Companionship

Because we are not islands, it is rewarding and fulfilling to have someone next to you who feels the pain as much as you do. Someone who is as challenged as you are by the workout you have both put together. It’s really good sometimes just to have someone next to you panting, “I’m dying!” as you trudge along! It’s such a great form of affirmation!

Well, those are the 3 things for today! Get yourself a gym partner, dear reader! It may change your gym life for the better!

I hope you noticed and like my new layout! I’m so sorry I subjected you to so much mess and thank for following despite it😊 have an awesome week😘

Parkrun: Bez Valley

Happy Sunday erbody!

I’m looking forward to this week. I’m staring down the barrel of the last week of the first term of the year! Teaching at a three-term school has its perks but we pay for it in other ways, i.e a much longer term than four terms schools! Aaaanyway! In 5 sleeps, I will switch off my alarm for 28 days straight!

So Parkrun has been going well! Yesterday was my 20th run and I can’t wait to hit 25 at the end of May! Every Saturday when I run, I see at least 5 runners with the Tshirt with 50 on the back and it’s very encouraging that I am edging closer to that t-shirt for myself every weekend that I show up!

Yesterday, the route was switched up a bit in the spirit of April fools, and we ran the race backwards this time! I love having a routine but switching things up from time to time makes things interesting in life!

I think it’s important to enjoy the little pleasures life throws at us. We dwell too much on the bad sometimes and miss out on the good!

So this week, I hope you take a moment every day to smell the roses, appreciate all those little things that take away the sting of the bad. All those little things add up and before you know it, you’re looking at a beautiful life again😉

Thank you so much for popping in today! Have beautiful week ahead! Enjoy it!😍

Beast Mode

Hey everyone!

Another Wednesday has rolled by and I’m so glad you’re here!

I’ve had a pretty good and productive week with a wealth of new knowledge. How has your week been so far?!

Tonight I wanna talk about gym life; one of my favourite things to do for fun and also for that dream body! For me, working out and being fit is the only thing that makes me feel good in my own skin. I hope to do it for as long as my body will allow!

I don’t sweat, I sparkle!

So, a few weeks ago I started doing parkrun. Check out my post about that here. I must say, it humbled me! I tell you, just because you can run a lot of kilometres on the treadmill does not mean the ground will be easier. On the treadmill, your legs are merely responding to the pull of the belt. I barely lift my legs to get going. The ground, on the other hand, is merciless! You are completely on your own and propelling yourself forward is all on you! I definately did more sweating than sparkling out there!

Look like a beauty train like a beast!

I refused to be discouraged ( even though I actually was)! So, this week I took to running outside on Monday and today to get myself ready for Saturday. I got some tips from fellow parkrunners who had to slow down to my granny pace and push me to keep going – capitalise on the downhills and straights by picking up the pace a little bit and breathe as much as possible through your nose.

Monday was gruelling but today went much better. I’m proud of myself for showing up and giving it my best and I can’t wait to see how I do this coming Saturday! I’ll let you know how it goes🙂

So I guess the lesson is very clear: Nothing that we accomplish comes easily or without hard work. Sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board and replan; It’s part of what makes life such an adventure!

Anyway, be good to yourself this week and give everything you do your very best! Thank you for popping in and I’ll see you on Sunday😘
