Vision Board

The New Year brings with it the beloved New Year’s resolutions: Goals we set for ourselves for the year ahead which ofen only last for 3 months at most before we slide back to our same old habits. We look back at the end of the year and wonder why we are still at the same placeand all those resolutions are often a distant memory.

I guess it’s because the new year lends itself to a clean slate. A chance to start over, to let go of toxic traits and toxic people and to be different people to who we were before.

So, because 2020 is such a big year, what with it being a new decade and all, most people are looking to do bigger things in their lives. Well, guess what? I’m most people!

I read this the other day and it reiterated my frustration. Dear World, it’s ok to be single and childless in your 30s. You can still be happy and fulfilled and accomplished and driven and complete without the obvious add-ons! I wish more people understood this!

This is why I was so excited to find this Twitter thread. A vision board!

This thread was very helpful and gave a sense of structure and direction to my vision for me as a brand. So I made my first ever digital vision board! There’s something about them that makes your goals much more tangible than when they float around in your head or when they are vague. While the written structure is spelled out and specific, the images I chose for each of the 8 categories won’t make much sense to anyone else but me, and those that know me best and may have contributed to the finished board.

So here it is! All the things I want to accomplish this year. In some regards, I’m striving for consistency in activities I’ve already started: gymlife and work. But there are uncharted territories as well, because what is growth without something new?

It’s going to be a good year, guys! I’m excited! So it’s your turn. What does your 2020 vision look like? Do share in the comments!

Thank you so much for popping in today! It’s always a pleasure to have you here! Have an awesome week ahead!

New Decade

Happy New Decade everybody! I trust you have started off the year well and I hope you have an amazing year and that all your dreams come true!

It has been an adventurous decade for me. A decade of many firsts and finding my way in the adult world. I think I faired well, but I know for sure that God is reliable and goes before me in everything as he did in the decade gone by. I go into the new decade confident in my ability and the power I possess because I am loved by the one who created me.

I’m back in the town, unpacked and ready for what lies ahead this year. You’ll hear all about it as it all unfolds, of course, so stick around!

Thank you so much for popping in! It’s always a pleasure to have you here! Have a restful day and we’ll chat again on Sunday! K, bye!

Parkrun: Bez Valley

Happy Sunday erbody!

I’m looking forward to this week. I’m staring down the barrel of the last week of the first term of the year! Teaching at a three-term school has its perks but we pay for it in other ways, i.e a much longer term than four terms schools! Aaaanyway! In 5 sleeps, I will switch off my alarm for 28 days straight!

So Parkrun has been going well! Yesterday was my 20th run and I can’t wait to hit 25 at the end of May! Every Saturday when I run, I see at least 5 runners with the Tshirt with 50 on the back and it’s very encouraging that I am edging closer to that t-shirt for myself every weekend that I show up!

Yesterday, the route was switched up a bit in the spirit of April fools, and we ran the race backwards this time! I love having a routine but switching things up from time to time makes things interesting in life!

I think it’s important to enjoy the little pleasures life throws at us. We dwell too much on the bad sometimes and miss out on the good!

So this week, I hope you take a moment every day to smell the roses, appreciate all those little things that take away the sting of the bad. All those little things add up and before you know it, you’re looking at a beautiful life again😉

Thank you so much for popping in today! Have beautiful week ahead! Enjoy it!😍

Young At Heart

Hey Erbody!

I hope it has been a good weekend for you! I’ve been swamped with work lately which had me believing that I’m barely coping with my work life, but I realized that I just need to take a step back sometimes and realize that I’m competent and coping just fine!

So, after marking 55 scripts of a test, completing 14 of my 28 subject comments, cleaning and doing a bit of shopping, I realized that I could afford to go out and have a little fun yesterday!

It has occurred to me that I have a pattern when I go to social gatherings: I’m always with the kids either playing catch in the pool or jumping on the trampoline until my legs give in. Adulting can be so much that the last thing you want to do is talk about at social gatherings as well! Give me the kids. I don’t mind being focused on perfecting my throw or not jumping too high to get my mind off more serious matters for a little while!

I’ve been told several times that I don’t look as old as I actually am. People have always been shocked that I’m 34. I’m convinced that being around kids all day is keeping me young😊

I’m at the stage in my life where I don’t have kids of my own yet, but all my friends and family do. I’m at the stage where I can play with other people’s children and I can give them back when I’m over it or when they get crabby! I’m often the aunty that’s playing with the little people! I find kids’ idea of fun very simple so I’m always eager to join in!

I don’t hide my age; I don’t see the point. Even if I pretend I’m younger, it really doesn’t change my actual 34 years at all, so I gave up the denialism a long time ago!

I hope you are enjoying the season you are in right now its very important because you’ll miss it when it’s gone!

Thank you so much for popping in today! Have a beautiful week ahead😘

Champion Teachers

Happy Wednesday everyone! If you’re reading this you are busy surviving the week! Keep going! It’s almost over!

So, on Monday I got to do some travelling for work. This hardly ever happens for me so I thoroughly enjoyed being outside the classroom for just one day!

My school is part of The South African Extraordinary Schools Coalition: A community of practice that’s made up of school leaders from South African schools that define themselves as impact schools.

Three times a year, we meet at these various schools to share best practices in the classroom as well as the running of the school we are visiting. Monday was Inanda Seminary in Durban.

Education is truly a passion that rewards you in more ways than just money. By far my favourite thing about this organisation and these meetings is how empowering it is to be surrounded by passionate leaders, teachers and student teachers who want to learn from each other and grow in the industry! I never leave without a nifty trick I can take back to my own classroom and a new burst of energy to use when I get back!

I hope that you too are working in an industry that you are excited and passionate about. I hope every day you are encouraged to do more in your field to make the world a better place.

Please check out the work that the Coalition is doing by following them on Twitter:

Thank you so much for visiting with me! Go and set the world afire! Have a great week ahead, dear readers!

Coach

Hey everyone!

I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend! I’m looking forward to a day when I wake up and look ahead to a day of nothing but staying in my PJs and watching tv and eating junk food and dozing back off all day! It’s been a very busy time for me, but I’m loving every moment of it! I hope you are enjoying your own life at the moment! It is yours to make of it as you please so go get it!

So on top of being a teacher, I also coach netball. It’s truly a blessing to witness these girls on the court because they are completely different from the girls you teach in the classroom! And they learn so many important life lessons on the court through winning or losing, working together as a team, supporting each other, finding what they are doing wrong and fixing it – it’s beautiful!

So this is my 4th coaching year and I’ve been coaching girls that stay with me for 2 years then move on to the First and/or second teams of the school. It’s been mildly disappointing in terms of game results. Last year was probably the first year where my teams seemed to make a dent in the league. But yesterday the penny dropped. We went to the annual Saheti Sevens festival and for the first time I saw it: every single girl in the 1st team was coached by me in the lower grades! These girls developed into players to be reckoned with and I had a hand in their development!

This will never stop boggling my mind! The effect we have in people’s lives is immeasurable! And I am so lucky to be able to see a little bit of it in my lifetime and while they are still in school!

I hope you are encouraged by the knowledge that you and the work you do is not invisible! Sometimes you may not see the fruits of your labour but there are fruits guys so keep going!

Thank you so much for visiting today! Have a beautiful week 😊
