I Need A Hug

I was having a particularly difficult day and I bumped into one of my students who had decided that I was her favourite teacher and had been calling me bestie for years -eventually, I gave into the affection.

“Bestie, I need a hug”, I blurted out without thinking. She looked up at me, eyes filling with tears, “I need a hug too!” I pulled her into an embrace, forgetting my own problems for a moment. Her cousin had passed away the night before and she was sad. We both stood in that embrace, both in need of the comfort. My spirit was lifted that day and I hope that hers was too.

In our time of need, we need each other and we should never back away from an opportunity to comfort others. Therein lies our own comfort too.

Intruders

Happy Sundays Everyone!

What a stressful week! But it’s over and it came with its rewards! I hope yours had some colour in it too🙂 Anyway, let’s get to the day’s topic!

It’s official: I am in love with South African literature❤ I especially love, Mohale Mashigo. I wrote about her debut novel, The Yearning almost a year ago. Come to think of it, I didn’t do that post justice! I adored the novel so much that I gave my copy away to a colleague I met- Bittersweet because I want to revisit that story, but I digress! Mashigo recently released a collection of short stories titled Intruders.

I seldom read more than one novel by any author, but Mashigo has stolen my heart! Her writing is alluring, her stories intriguing and her characters, all people I’d like to call my friends.

In this particular collection, she introduces the reader to a genre of literature called Afrofuturism. She, however expresses a need to tell stories that lie somewhere between a dystopian and a utopian future Africa. She explains it much more eloquently in her notes before delving into these different worlds where everything is familiar in its South African contexts but with completely different, sometimes supernatural and sometimes strange features.

That’s how she has me hanging on her every word in every story of this collection of short stories! I found myself eagerly turning the page and the next story in anticipation for how each tale will unfold all the while dreading (because short stories always tend to be too short) the end which comes all too quickly!

In a nutshell! I’m loving this novel! I’m not done yet, bu I look forward to the rest of it! Find it and give it a try!

Well, that’s all I had to share today! I’m praying for a warrior mentality this week! I hope you too resolve to reach your goals and not to surrender!

Thanks for popping in and have an awesome week, my friendlies😘

I Am Many

Evening, Dear Readers!

Happy humpday! I am looking forward to the weekend and getting some rest! We’re almost there!

I love to participate in all kinds of writing challenges! I find them a great way to interact and get to know people! I found this little gem from The Godly Chic and so I am jumping on that bandwagon! Check out her blog! She always posts encouraging things just when I need them😊

Here’s a brief explanation of #IAmMany I stole from her👇

#IamMany stands for women supporting women. Women encouraging women. Women sharing their skills , their wisdom with one another. Let us be proud of all the titles that we are, because NO woman is just one thing. We are multi – faceted. We are ALWAYS many!

I am a daughter, a sister, a lover, a friend. #IAmMany: a colleague, a teacher, a musician, a singer, a strong, vibrant, beautiful, loving woman! I am nubian, a queen, fierce, God’s child! #IAmMany. I love chocolate and cooking. I am an adventurer a helper. I am here and I am many!

Ok, your turn, ladies! Comment or write your own post of all the amazing things that you are!

Thank you for popping in and enjoy what’s left of the week😘

The Eat Out – The Royale, Johannesburg

Happy Sunday Erbody!

I trust you have had a great weekend and you’re rested up for the week ahead.

It amazes me how much we can change over a short space of time. And we don’t realise it ’till we revisit ourselves and see a huge change!

I love food. I love making it, and trying what other people make and so the eatout was always the highlight of my month! Check out my previous posts about it here.

Last night, a handful of the old members of the Eatout got together to celebrate a birthday in true eatout style. Our adventure took us to The Royale in Craighall, Johannesburg.

The Spot

The restaurant itself doesn’t really stick out among the long rows of shops, bars and car dealerships along Jan Smuts so you will have to trust your GPS completely to get there in case you miss it. Once inside, you are met by a Cuban vibe: Great music, palm trees and rustic photoframes on the walls. There’s an open roof in the outside/ inside area that is going to be perfect when summer really kicks in! The birthday girl had to book us a table well in advance and we found ourselves sitting next to a bridal party as well! In true Joburg style, The Royale brings in all types of people from the sophisticated cuisine hunters to the hipsters popping in for a few drinks.

The Service

I arrived late to the venue so I didn’t know who our waiter was. He was difficult to flag down but the place does start getting busy after 7 on a Saturday night. Our food and drink, however, did arrive promptly every time! The food portions were reasonable, in size and in prices, and just as yummy!

Our Favourites

Speaking of yummy food, the ribs were amazing! Tender meat and a portion fit for a king! The prawn curry was just the right amount of spicy to enjoy without tearing up! The clam and mussels were also a hit. Those 2 rolls on the side help to enjoy the leftover lemon creamy sauce😋. I will definately be having the squid next time I’m there! In a nutshell, none of us were dissappointed with our food!

Well, there you have it! My take on an authentically Cuban experience with a little help from a few friends! Thanks for your input guys! Of course, your company makes these outings all the more delightful!

Well, thank you once again for dropping by, everyone! I hope to see you on Wednesday!

P.S Oh I almost forgot! When you visit this cool spot make sure you take a picture at the Palm Tree! The Palm tree was awesome!

Memory Lane

Hey Everyone!

I trust the week is being good to you😊

Before I ramble on about myself, I’d like to take a moment to appreciate you! Thank you for popping in on this blog, taking the time to read and even liking my posts. It’s been a pleasure to write for you especially over the last few months! Thank you! Thank you!

I used to blog on another platform that sent me the link to the old site. I spent a lot of yesterday going down memory lane and, as I keep saying, what you write is so much sweeter in retrospect. I was really amazed at all that was spilling out of me at those times. I sounded so spunky and for the most part had a positive outlook on life.

Anyway, if you’re keen for some extended reading you can find my How Tos here

Why don’t you share with me your favourite post so far. I would love to hear from you!

Thanks for taking a peek today! Have a beautiful week. We’ll chat again on Sunday😘

Wacky Wednesday

Hi Everyone! I hope the week is treating you well🙂

It’s the 2nd week of my school holiday and I’m still loving it😎 Lots of gym and relaxing. I will have to ease back into work in the next 2 weeks though, but that is future me’s problem!

My mom came up for a visit from the Eastern Cape, my home province. I love that my mom never allowed the delays and detours of life stop her from having the things that she wanted for herself, but that’s a post for another day🙂

Today, we adventured the city of Johannesburg tourist style! I love this city, its vibrance and beauty. I will never leave! Ok, maybe when I retire or when I visit other cities, lol. Johannesburg has come a long way and we can be very proud of ourselves!

Show me some sights from the city in which you live! I’d love to see😊

Thanks for reading!
