Beast Mode

Hey everyone!

Another Wednesday has rolled by and I’m so glad you’re here!

I’ve had a pretty good and productive week with a wealth of new knowledge. How has your week been so far?!

Tonight I wanna talk about gym life; one of my favourite things to do for fun and also for that dream body! For me, working out and being fit is the only thing that makes me feel good in my own skin. I hope to do it for as long as my body will allow!

I don’t sweat, I sparkle!

So, a few weeks ago I started doing parkrun. Check out my post about that here. I must say, it humbled me! I tell you, just because you can run a lot of kilometres on the treadmill does not mean the ground will be easier. On the treadmill, your legs are merely responding to the pull of the belt. I barely lift my legs to get going. The ground, on the other hand, is merciless! You are completely on your own and propelling yourself forward is all on you! I definately did more sweating than sparkling out there!

Look like a beauty train like a beast!

I refused to be discouraged ( even though I actually was)! So, this week I took to running outside on Monday and today to get myself ready for Saturday. I got some tips from fellow parkrunners who had to slow down to my granny pace and push me to keep going – capitalise on the downhills and straights by picking up the pace a little bit and breathe as much as possible through your nose.

Monday was gruelling but today went much better. I’m proud of myself for showing up and giving it my best and I can’t wait to see how I do this coming Saturday! I’ll let you know how it goes🙂

So I guess the lesson is very clear: Nothing that we accomplish comes easily or without hard work. Sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board and replan; It’s part of what makes life such an adventure!

5 Things I Liked about Gillloy’s Parkrun

Evening Erbody!

Wow, that was close! I almost didn’t make it today!

Let’s get straight to it! I did a parkrun yesterday morning. It is a 5km run that is done every Saturday. Here’s what I thought:

1.It’s International!

I don’t know about you, but I love being a part of something that’s bigger than me! Did you know that parkruns take place in 20 countries accross 5 continents every Saturday morning? At 8am all over the world people are running!

2. Rise and Run!

8 in the morning sounds super early, especially for a Saturday, but the last thing I want to do on a Friday night is go out partying! So, for me 8am is the perfect time. I’m home by 9 and I can go back to bed or have a Saturday like everybody else🙂

3.So Much Support!

This one’s specific to this parkrun. At every kilometre, Gillooly’s had one of their volunteers shouting encouragments to keep going! It was such a boost!

4. Group Work

Even if you attend a parkrun alone, you are still doing the run with hundreds of other people. I kept tracking myself according to the granny ahead of me or the walking children behind me. I loved the sense of community!

5. Fitness Goals

I guess this one is obvious. Everyone is in it for different reasons, but for me it was nice to run on the ground as opposed to the treadmill which makes running easier in some ways. Running long distance is really effective outside!

I’m really curious to see the progress I make in the next few weeks. I’ll keep you posted!

Good Habits

This week, I decided to start drinking more water. My form of liquid intake lately is juice and coffee -that can’t be good! The only problem with this water intake thing is that there is so much water one has to drink; it’s way too much admin to refill water bottles much less actually remembering to take them to work every day. Luckily, Pinterest came to my rescue! Check out these nifty tricks that will not only give you more purpose for drinking water every day, but gives you opportune  times to take water so that you don’t find yourself gulping down 5 glasses of water at the end of the day to make sure you are caught up!
