Corona – The Virus, Not the Beer!

I was emptying my inbox this morning and every email I opened, be it an online newspaper, a blogpost or a devotional, it all revolved around the Corona Virus.

It made me realise that the world is anxious about this virus. We may or may not close school early. Dem boys are spraying hand sanitizer all over themselves or anyone that comes close to them. Any sneeze or cough is a symptom. Of course, they lowkey want the school to be closed indefinitely even though they hate the idea of having no contact with other people during the quarantine. I have to remind myself not to shake hands or hug people and I sing happy birthday twice while I rub soap into my hands every time I go to the bathroom. Of course, I touch everything after I leave the bathroom and honestly, who can go a whole day without touching their face?! Not me!

In the meantime, South Africa is mildly nervous but mostly pokes fun at the unfolding events because it’s what we do in the face of adversity: we laugh. Black Twitter has decided that the virus is a white thing and we have nothing to worry about. I hear there is even a Corona dance going around!

I’ve definitely taken the stance that the indifferent have on the matter. I have a pretty strong immune system; I get the flu every few years and I medicate immediately and I don’t fit the age group of the most affected by the Coronavirus. At best, the virus is basically the flu and at worst, you die.

As much as most of the odds are in my favour, this is not the wise approach to this. I’m pretty sure that the cases of South Africans who came back with the virus were thinking one of these theories applied to them too; now look at them! So, I’ve opted to be wise and not fearful. I use the sanitizers provided at church and at work and I wash my hands as often as I can. I try not to touch my face ( and fail miserably) and I’m trying not to hug people ( this makes me sad, I settle for elbow bumps)

I hope you are being safe out there! While Africa will very well stay minimally affected by the virus due to our humidity, I wish travellers would stop going skyying overseas and opt for Summer visits. If we really catch this virus, we will not be able to cope with it! Do it for the country, not for yourselves!

Here’s my hope for you this week! That you may know the presence of someone greater than you and know that someone bigger is in control of your safety while you do what you can to keep yourself safe! Have a beautiful week😘

Fibo Fitness and Wellness Festival

I’m starting to feel more and more at home in fitness spaces and I love it!

This weekend found me at Fibo Health and Fitness, Wellness Festival. I was really there to support my friend as per the friendship aggreement but I got much more than I expected!

Endless stalls ranging from food to active wear and equipment and everything in between! I planked for vouchers, sweated out in 30-minute classes and tried out all kinds of healthy shakes and food.

So I finally tried out Piloxing, guys and it was so much more than I expected! It’s not just punching into the air. The piloxing gloves, which have a little added weight, ensure that you get more out of those punches. 2 sets, and I understood why the instructors have such lean arms! It was only a 30-minute demo class but I was sweating hard by the end!

And it doesn’t stop there. My legs were put to the test with standing leg raises that also demand a tightened core to maximise effectiveness. I would love to have this class on a regular basis at my own gym! It’s a must try for men and women!

Shout out to Tania and her team for a great demo. You’re an amazing instructor full of fun and so much energy and it’s evident that you and your team believing in what you’re doing! Thank you!

Thank you for popping erbody! It’s always a pleasure to have you hear! Have an awesome week😘

Beast Mode

Hey everyone!

Another Wednesday has rolled by and I’m so glad you’re here!

I’ve had a pretty good and productive week with a wealth of new knowledge. How has your week been so far?!

Tonight I wanna talk about gym life; one of my favourite things to do for fun and also for that dream body! For me, working out and being fit is the only thing that makes me feel good in my own skin. I hope to do it for as long as my body will allow!

I don’t sweat, I sparkle!

So, a few weeks ago I started doing parkrun. Check out my post about that here. I must say, it humbled me! I tell you, just because you can run a lot of kilometres on the treadmill does not mean the ground will be easier. On the treadmill, your legs are merely responding to the pull of the belt. I barely lift my legs to get going. The ground, on the other hand, is merciless! You are completely on your own and propelling yourself forward is all on you! I definately did more sweating than sparkling out there!

Look like a beauty train like a beast!

I refused to be discouraged ( even though I actually was)! So, this week I took to running outside on Monday and today to get myself ready for Saturday. I got some tips from fellow parkrunners who had to slow down to my granny pace and push me to keep going – capitalise on the downhills and straights by picking up the pace a little bit and breathe as much as possible through your nose.

Monday was gruelling but today went much better. I’m proud of myself for showing up and giving it my best and I can’t wait to see how I do this coming Saturday! I’ll let you know how it goes🙂

So I guess the lesson is very clear: Nothing that we accomplish comes easily or without hard work. Sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board and replan; It’s part of what makes life such an adventure!

Anyway, be good to yourself this week and give everything you do your very best! Thank you for popping in and I’ll see you on Sunday😘

5 Things I Liked about Gillloy’s Parkrun

Evening Erbody!

Wow, that was close! I almost didn’t make it today!

Let’s get straight to it! I did a parkrun yesterday morning. It is a 5km run that is done every Saturday. Here’s what I thought:

1.It’s International!

I don’t know about you, but I love being a part of something that’s bigger than me! Did you know that parkruns take place in 20 countries accross 5 continents every Saturday morning? At 8am all over the world people are running!

2. Rise and Run!

8 in the morning sounds super early, especially for a Saturday, but the last thing I want to do on a Friday night is go out partying! So, for me 8am is the perfect time. I’m home by 9 and I can go back to bed or have a Saturday like everybody else🙂

3.So Much Support!

This one’s specific to this parkrun. At every kilometre, Gillooly’s had one of their volunteers shouting encouragments to keep going! It was such a boost!

4. Group Work

Even if you attend a parkrun alone, you are still doing the run with hundreds of other people. I kept tracking myself according to the granny ahead of me or the walking children behind me. I loved the sense of community!

5. Fitness Goals

I guess this one is obvious. Everyone is in it for different reasons, but for me it was nice to run on the ground as opposed to the treadmill which makes running easier in some ways. Running long distance is really effective outside!

I’m really curious to see the progress I make in the next few weeks. I’ll keep you posted!

Thank you so much for dropping by! Have an awesome week!

This Way

I wasn’t born this way.

I wasn’t born in pain.

Nifty Tricks, Ramblings

Good Habits

This week, I decided to start drinking more water. My form of liquid intake lately is juice and coffee -that can’t be good! The only problem with this water intake thing is that there is so much water one has to drink; it’s way too much admin to refill water bottles much less actually remembering to take them to work every day. Luckily, Pinterest came to my rescue! Check out these nifty tricks that will not only give you more purpose for drinking water every day, but gives you opportune  times to take water so that you don’t find yourself gulping down 5 glasses of water at the end of the day to make sure you are caught up!

Try it out and tell me what you think, Ok?
