Something Borrowed Part 3

Happy Sunday erbody! I hope you’ve had a good week! I’m so excited to get back to work tomorrow! I need something to keep me out of trouble and it’s good to wake up to a purpose and not one you make up for yourself for the day😏 Woaw! I’m jumping to my next post already! Let me get back to what I have planned for you today!

Ok, I’ve been waiting for the perfect recipe to share with you, so part 3 of this series took longer than anticipated – sorry! But, don’t worry, Winter is technically not over yet so the timing is still in place!

I’m pretty confident in the kitchen and I enjoy cooking. Baking, on the other hand, is trickier for me, or rather, I am less practiced at it. I was on tea duty at church today and I thought I would make something from scratch instead of buying ready made baked goods like I normally do. Also, my friend Kelly (you remember my dinner hosting Kelly, right?) baked a cake for Stacey’s birthday and she swore to me that it is super easy to bake! I was sold and today, I bring you the recipe!

Kelly’s Chocolate Cake

1 1/2 cup sugar

4 large eggs

11/2 cup self raising flour

1/2 cup coco

1 tsp baking powder

8th of 500 g Margarine

1 tsp Vanilla essence

1/2 cup Water

1/2 cup milk

1. Preheat Oven to 180 degrees.

2.Beat eggs and sugar until sugar is dissolved and well mixed.

3. Sift dry ingredients in a separate bowl.

4. Melt margarine, milk and water in a pot.

5. Mix egg/sugar mix with dry ingredients. Stir until batter is smooth. Add vanilla essence.

6. Add liquid mixture. Stir until smooth.

7. Grease baking pan with margarine and sprinkle a little flour over it. You can also use spray and cook and line the pan with paper.

8. Pour mixture in pan and bake for 25 -35 min.

But, wait. There’s more…

Since I’m new to baking I decided to keep the icing very simple:

Warm a can of caramel in a pot to “cement” the two cakes and drizzle over the top and sides. You can also melt a slab of plain chocolate with some cream and drizzle over the top.

Well, there you have it! I think it turned out great and many yummy noises were made! A huge thank you to my friend Kelly for sharing the recipe!

I’m so excited for Wednesday! I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine blogger award! I haven’t been nominated in a while! have an awesome week, erbody😘

Victoria Yards

What started out as a surprise visit to my friend’s start-up turned into an exploration of Victoria Yards and all its wonders.

It surfaces like an oasis in the rubble that is the inner city. Victoria Yards is an incubator for entrepreneurs and start-ups from all over Johanesburg. From painters to jewelery makers, bookbinders to photographers, a fish and chips joint and even a gin distiller all in one place!

Brian Green, a property developer who also developed 44 Stanley saw fit to use this space for the surrounding community who have business and passions in the arts. People who are still honing their craft use the space and pay rent according to how much they make. Once their business takes off, they then pay rent in full.

On the first Sunday of every month, this inner city space comes alive with food vendors, craft beers and a farmer’s market. The artists’ galleries are open creating a lovely family atmosphere.

I’m sad that I couldn’t see my friend on this day, but was very happy to have met some of the artists working in this space and to see the work that they are doing. I’m really looking forward to the next market day!

So, if you enjoy these types of adventures, then Victoria Yards is the place for you! I’ll see you on the first Sunday of October!

Thank you for popping in today! It’s always great to have you here😘 have a beautiful week! I’ll see you on Wednesday.

3 Positive Pants Favourites

Happy Sunday and a new month to everyone! A change of season is near and I can’t wait for the changes that come with it!

If you’re a curvy girl like me, you understand how difficult it is to find gym tights that fit. It is exhausting! They’re usually too small or they don’t sit as high up on the waist as I would like them to, which makes my gym sessions so uncomfortable! The struggle is real!

I was sceptical when Positive Pants showed up on my social media timeline. I mean, these pants are modelled by either slender or pregnant women and I fall somewhere inbetween these gorgeous people, so meh! Here are 3 things I liked about the Positive Pants:

Despite my scepticism, I couldn’t help but browse through the wide selection of prints. Positive Pants offers gorgeous tights that have vibrant designs in bright colours. How does one resist all that?!

In this day and age, you’d think I shop online like all forward-thinking Millennials, but I still worry about how my clothes will fit – if they arrive at all! That’s why I was so happy that I could DM them on social media for all my questions and whoever [promptly] responded to me was so helpful! Within a few minutes, I knew how to pick a pair of pants that would fit me best and another half an hour to make my payment! And the cherry on top? My pants arrived THE NEXT DAY! They were packaged with my name on them as if the person I DMed sent them herself! I couldn’t be happier if I was sent flowers, to be honest!

Perfect fit

When I took them out I was horrified. They looked tiny and I was sure that all my anxiety about the fit was coming to life! But they fit like a glove! Not like squeeze them in or jump up and down for them to fit but legit fit and high waist, just like I wanted! I didn’t want to take them off, not even to try on the other pair! Now I understand why they advertise these pants for day to day living and not just as active wear!

If you like feeling good and being comfortable in whatever you are wearing, then these pants are for you! You’ll love their bold designs too! You can find them on Facebook and Instagram!

Thank you so much for popping in, guys! Have a beautiful week 😘

Hey everyone! It’s good to have you back😊 I had a bit of drama yesterday but I’m begining to bounce back a little bit, I’ll tell you all about it in a minute!

I finally finished this gem in the wee hours of this morning! If you haven’t yet, you should really get your hands on this beauty! I’m definitely planning to read it again!

Back to my drama! The past few weeks have been very very strange. I haven’t been sleeping very well. I go to bed at a decent hour and without the disturbing noise of the TV. But without fail, every morning, around 4am, I’m up. Wide awake. I’ve finally resorted to reading and catching up on marking until I fall back asleep. On other nights, I spend the time in prayer and meditation; there is so much to pray about, guys!

I’ve also been putting my body through a lot of strain in the gym. My shins have been hurting and so have my knees from all the extra work I’ve been putting in. Everyone around me has been telling me to take it easy, rest and pick it back up – I haven’t listened and yesterday, I caught a stomach bug! Well, it wasn’t that bad, but my plan to go for a run in the morning and gym later on in the day as well as put in some marking in between was shot to hell! My body caved and demanded the rest I was refusing it.

Even as I proofread this, I feel mildy overwhelmed! I try to do too much and I’m not sure what I’m trying to prove, but my lesson here is very clear: I need to give up control: over my body, my work, the people in my life, everything! I started this year with the intention to enjoy my life the way it is and it’s time to go with the flow, listen to my body and my mind and just relax a little bit.

So share with me! What is your life demanding of you right now? I hope you are listening closely! It’s always a pleasure to have you here. Don’t worry, Sunday will be here before you know it 😘

5 Things I Liked about Gillloy’s Parkrun

Evening Erbody!

Wow, that was close! I almost didn’t make it today!

Let’s get straight to it! I did a parkrun yesterday morning. It is a 5km run that is done every Saturday. Here’s what I thought:

1.It’s International!

I don’t know about you, but I love being a part of something that’s bigger than me! Did you know that parkruns take place in 20 countries accross 5 continents every Saturday morning? At 8am all over the world people are running!

2. Rise and Run!

8 in the morning sounds super early, especially for a Saturday, but the last thing I want to do on a Friday night is go out partying! So, for me 8am is the perfect time. I’m home by 9 and I can go back to bed or have a Saturday like everybody else🙂

3.So Much Support!

This one’s specific to this parkrun. At every kilometre, Gillooly’s had one of their volunteers shouting encouragments to keep going! It was such a boost!

4. Group Work

Even if you attend a parkrun alone, you are still doing the run with hundreds of other people. I kept tracking myself according to the granny ahead of me or the walking children behind me. I loved the sense of community!

5. Fitness Goals

I guess this one is obvious. Everyone is in it for different reasons, but for me it was nice to run on the ground as opposed to the treadmill which makes running easier in some ways. Running long distance is really effective outside!

I’m really curious to see the progress I make in the next few weeks. I’ll keep you posted!

Thank you so much for dropping by! Have an awesome week!

Memory Lane

Hey Everyone!

I trust the week is being good to you😊

Before I ramble on about myself, I’d like to take a moment to appreciate you! Thank you for popping in on this blog, taking the time to read and even liking my posts. It’s been a pleasure to write for you especially over the last few months! Thank you! Thank you!

I used to blog on another platform that sent me the link to the old site. I spent a lot of yesterday going down memory lane and, as I keep saying, what you write is so much sweeter in retrospect. I was really amazed at all that was spilling out of me at those times. I sounded so spunky and for the most part had a positive outlook on life.

Anyway, if you’re keen for some extended reading you can find my How Tos here

Why don’t you share with me your favourite post so far. I would love to hear from you!

Thanks for taking a peek today! Have a beautiful week. We’ll chat again on Sunday😘

Better Than Me

No one knows how to lift my spirits better than me.Just put me behind the wheel and give me an adventure to embark on.

No one knows how to make my heart flutter better than me. Play me something beautiful, progressions with minors and husky voices and words that sing what I feel.

No one takes care of me better than me. Give me my matchbox flat, flavours to mix in a pot that nourish my belly and my soul.

No one calms me better than me. Make the room quiet and leave me to my own devices.

No one knows me better than me and no one loves me better than me because I’m all I’ve got…
